PINEAPPLE STRAWBERRY AGUA FRESCA – a light refreshing drink to keep you cool all summer long! This Agua Fresca takes less than 10 minutes to make and is sweetened with agave nectar.
I find that my Monday posts tend to be a bit more contemplative. Probably because I just came out of church and usually my mind is thinking of the last blow to the gut story our pastor just shared.
Well, today is no different.
He started to tell this story of a 15 year old boy, let’s say his name is David, who had just lost his dad. This kid was just heartbroken, as anyone would be after loosing a parent.
He went to this church conference; mind reeling and questioning a lot of stuff. Why would God take my dad away from me? That doesn’t seem like a good God. What do I really believe about God? What do I do with all this anger?
He sat there thinking. After the speaker had finished, David walked up to him and told the speaker his story. He then told him about all the questions he had and how angry he was at God. Then David asked, “what should I do? I don’t know how to process this?”
The speaker just looked at David and said. “Here’s what I want you to do. I want you to go home. Go into your bedroom and just start punching your pillow and mattress. Get all that anger out. Yell out all the stuff you are thinking right now. Keep doing it for as long as you can. Then come back tomorrow and tell me about it.”
David agreed to do it, despite how awkward it felt. He went up to his bedroom, closed the door and just started punching his pillow and yelling.
The next day David came back to the conference, walked up to that same speaker and the speaker says. “Well, did you do what I asked?” David said “Yes.” The speaker says, “How did you feel?”
David replied, “Well I started punching and yelling …. and did it for a while. But then I got tired.”
The speaker said “So what did you do?”
David said “I just fell down into my pillow, exhausted, and fell asleep.”
The speaker looked at David and said “Son. You have a God whose chest is big and strong enough to take your toughest punches. And when you’re exhausted from the fight, you can crash into that same chest to get REST.”
My eyes just teared up as I heard that. With all the stuff we’ve gone through the past 2 years I am mentally exhausted. My body is weary from the fight. My mind is weary. I feel depleted. I just need to crash into Gods chest and find some rest for my soul.
Even hearing those words refreshing me. I hope you found encouragement in that story like I did. 🙂 XOXO
Ok, now, onto other things that are refreshing. 🙂
